The first figures are legal minimums: the apprentice rate (£8.00/hr) and the National Minimum Wage for 18–20s and 21+ from April 2026, on a 37.5-hour week. Qualified and experienced pay are indicative UK ranges — most employers pay apprentices above the minimum.

What the job is

Plenty of people get promoted to supervisor and are handed no training whatsoever. This apprenticeship fixes that: it covers leading people, managing performance, planning work, budgets, projects and difficult conversations.

It runs across every sector and is a common way for employers to develop tradespeople, care staff and administrators into managers without losing them for a year at college.

A typical day

  • Plan, allocate and monitor the team's work
  • Support, coach and develop team members
  • Manage performance and handle difficult conversations
  • Monitor budgets, resources and quality
  • Deliver projects and report progress

How you get in

  • Usually you must already be in, or moving into, a supervisory role
  • Level 2 English and maths
  • Some relevant work experience
  • Employer support is essential — it is assessed at work

Where it leads

  • Operations or departmental manager (level 5)
  • Project management (level 4/6)
  • Chartered Manager degree apprenticeship
  • Senior leadership roles
